As of Spring, 2019, Norton Audubon Hospital currently has a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of A (The Leapfrog Group, 2019). For context, The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system (The Leapfrog Group, 2018) and the grade reflects outcome data for multiple patient safety criteria. While Audubon earned an A, a deeper dive into the scores shows there is room for improvement in the area of surgical site infections after colon surgery and communication to patients about medicines. These two issues contradict the Norton mission statement in that increased infection rates and decreased communication are the antithesis of quality health care.
